It has been quite a week for skiing in the Chamonix valley! After some fluffy powder snow on Tuesday from Monday's storm (20-30cm), there were more storms during the middle of the week, with tons of new snow in the high mountain. Friday had some warmer spring snow conditions, and then on Friday night there was another wave of fresh snow (5-10cm of compact powder), as the tail of storm "Eunice" gave us a slap! This sure is a weather roller-coaster that we are riding at the moment. The mountains are looking stunning in the sun today, after the snowfall, especially above 2400m or so, with cliffs plastered white.
All of the Chamonix ski areas are looking good at the moment. Lower altitudes have plenty of snow on north facing slopes, for example at Les Houches, and on the Pierre-a-ric piste down from Grands Montets. Above 1800m everywhere is pretty snowy: a bit icy in places, especially on high traffic pistes (it is the school holidays), but there is lots of soft snow around this weekend.
There is another snowstorm in the forecast for Monday/Tuesday. We haven't had a really huge snowfalls in a few weeks in this part of the Alps, but it has been fairly regular top-ups instead. However at the moment this next one is predicted to be quite a significant snow amount. We shall see how that develops after the weekend.
