Fresh snow this weekend in Chamonix.
There is some unstable weather passing over us this weekend, and for the start of the week ahead: Clouds, sunny spells, foehn wind, and snow showers - welcome to the April mix!
The last week started off mostly sunny, with great spring skiing/riding conditions at Grandfs Montets, but became steadily more unsettled during the last few days. Here are some photos from the weekend of 23rd/24th April at the Grands Montets. Saturday still had spring snow conditions with some snow showers in the higher altitudes, and then this Sunday morning there was fresh snow down to the valley bottom, and a fair amount of creamy new snow above 2000m (maybe 25cm at 2500/2700m). The ski area has kept the snow well, since it is mostly north facing, and there is still plenty of snow up there.
There is still one more week of skiing in Chamonix for this winter season, at Grands Montets, which closes on May 1st (with a closing party, of course!). The sun should make some kind of return during the week ahead.
