The bus network in Chamonix to improve from 4 December 2023

Throughout the year, twelve regular lines will be available to passenger, with no less than seven local lines to serve all the settlements.

On Wednesday 11 October, the new concession contract for public transport in the Chamonix Mont-Blanc valley came into operation. This new six-and-a-half-year agreement is accompanied by new signage. The buses are gradually taking on a new red colour and bearing the "Chamonix Mobilité" logo, named after the company created by Transdev to deliver the new transportation service.

Chamonix will benefit from three additional bus routes.

  • Line 9 will reach the Mont above Les Bossons.
  • Line 10 will serve Les Moussoux and Les Moentieux.
  • Les Bois and Les Praz will have their own shuttle bus in connection with Le Lavancher.

Finally, the only reduction in service is that the Mulet (shuttle) service in Chamonix town will no longer pass by the hospital – Maison de Santé.

Line 5:  Vallorcine will have its own Vallorcine valley shuttle all year round between Le Buet and Barberine.

Passengers will experience the real changes from Monday, December 4. On this date, the network will completely change, offering twelve regular lines to serve the entire Chamonix Mont-Blanc valley.

During the press briefing on Monday 23 October, the elected representatives of the commune o Chamonix promised a 50% improvement in the service, with more routes and higher frequency during peak hours.

In detail, the routing of lines 1 and 2 will not change, but the schedule will change, allowing passengers to reach Chamonix from 6:05 a.m. instead of the current 7:15 a.m. Line 3 to Servoz will have an increase in frequency and will pass by Le Mont.

Night buses will serve the four municipalities with a final departure from the centre of Chamonix at 1:10 a.m., compared with the current 11:05 p.m. last bus.

In addition to the permanent network, ski buses will enhance transportation options during the winter season. Vehicles dedicated for holidaymakers will be marked in blue on the front, for better identification.

The new bus network in the Chamonix valley will cost more. Until now, the local authority has paid €5.5 million/year for the service.
From 2024, the annual cost will rise to €7 million per year.

From 4 December, the ViaCham card will become a transport ticket like some ski passes. The operator also plans to redesign its website and develop its own smartphone app.
