Robert Bailey, a 63 years old British doctor, was first reported missing on the 21st of March, 2019.
The PGHM of Chamonix conducted several search missions throughout the Chamonix valley, which unfortunately were unsuccessful.
After looking for the British doctor for almost a month, the PGHM of Chamonix has now found the body of the esteemed British doctor.
On the 21st of March, Robert Bailey went hiking alone in Les Houches, near Chamonix Mont-Blanc and failed to return to his hotel that evening.
The manager of the hotel where Robert Bailey was staying with his friends announced the PGHM of Chamonix of the doctor's disappearance.
The PGHM of Chamonix was stuck in their search mission until Tuesday, the 16th of April when they had a breakthrough.
On the 16th of April, 26 days after doctor Bailey went missing, the rescuers were conducting a search mission in an area called Chenaux, about 4000 feet altitude or 1200 meters.
During that search mission, the PGHM of Chamonix found a snowshoe, which is special latticed footwear hikers attach to their boots to walk over snow easier.
The snowshoe appeared to have been intentionally placed against the tree, most likely because the British doctor felt lost and wanted to indicate his route.
After finding the snowshoe, the PGHM dog team with helicopter support focused their search in that area.
Unfortunately, the distinguished British doctor was no longer alive and his body was found in a river.
A spokesperson for the PGHM declared for the Mirror Online: "There is an on-going enquiry. We have not determined the exact cause of his death yet. But it appears that he fell into the stream. The terrain was very steep. "
Dr Gary Howsam, clinical chair of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG, said: "Our thoughts are with Dr Bailey's friends and family at this sad time as well as his colleagues and patients. Rob was a well loved and respected GP and all those who worked with him will miss him deeply." (BBC News)
